Ted Vives

Ted Vives, born in 1964 in Auburn, Alabama, began his musical journey at four, learning piano under Edgar and Dorothy Glyde. This early introduction to music was the beginning of a lifelong passion. He expanded his musical repertoire to include trombone performance and composition as he progressed through schooling. These formative years were instrumental in developing his deep love for music and setting the foundation for his future career in the field.

His academic path in music led him to Florida State University, where he pursued bachelor’s degrees in Composition and Music Education. This period was marked by significant learning and development. He studied under renowned composers like John Boda and Charles Carter, experiences that profoundly influenced his approach to music composition. His trombone skills were honed under the tutelage of William Cramer and John Drew while conducting studies with James Croft broadened his musical expertise. This well-rounded education at Florida State University gave him a comprehensive understanding of music, laying the groundwork for his future endeavors.

Following his undergraduate studies, he furthered his musical education, earning a Master of Music in Composition and Music Theory and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Florida.
